Instructions!

Step-by-Step Painting

Track Your Coats of Paint

    • One coat: Will appear like watercolor, with visible brushstrokes.

    • Two coats: Looks more filled in but still light.

    • Three coats: Creates a solid, vibrant color.

  1. Layer Colors Wisely

    • Start with light colors and work towards dark colors. Dark colors will overpower light ones during firing, even if they look fine before firing.

  2. Avoid Mixing Colors

    • These paints are not like acrylics—mixing colors can give unpredictable results (e.g., yellow and blue may not make green).

    • Go Easy on the Glaze! Only pour about a quarter-sized amount of glaze into the palette at a time. This helps reduce waste and makes sure you have enough to finish your masterpiece!

  3. Unpainted Areas

    • Any unpainted sections will be glossy white after we apply a clear glaze.

  4. Water Soluble Paints

    • Cleaning is easy! Our glazes are water-based, which means that paint can be cleaned from tables, and little hands simply with water and soap.

  5. Keep Brushes Dry

    • No water is needed to apply paint. Only rinse brushes between colors or when cleaning off mistakes. Avoid using water on the pottery itself before painting.

Do not use other paint that does not come from our studio. We will inspect the piece when you drop it off, and we will deny firing if we see another type of paint. This is to prevent damage to your piece and our kilns.

You're Almost done with Your Masterpiece!

Now that you've had a blast painting at home, here's what to do next:

  • Bring Back Your Pottery!
Once you're done, be sure to return all your pieces to the studio for glazing and firing. Your pottery won't be food-safe until we work our magic!

  • Name your Pottery!
Grab a pencil and write each painter's name clearly on the bottom of their pottery. (Make sure we can read them—no secret codes, please! )

  • Return Brushes & Palettes
Don’t forget to bring back all the brushes and plastic palettes with your kit! If anything's missing, there’s a small fee: $3 per brush and $4 per palette.

  • Keep Those Colors Safe!
All 6 colors in your kit are special glaze designed to handle the heat of the kiln and make your pottery food-safe. Please, do not mix them with acrylic or any other paints from home—it'll damage your pottery and our kiln!

  • Go Easy on the Glaze!
Only pour about a quarter-sized amount of glaze into the palette at a time. This helps reduce waste and makes sure you have enough to finish your masterpiece!

  • Return & Relax
Once your kit is back at the studio, we'll take it from there! Your finished pottery will be ready for pickup in 7-10 days. We can't wait to see how they turn out!
